Brek

The band Brek plays mainly original, folk music with influences from various directions. The emphasis is on combining the various influences from different styles of folk and popular music. The band also tries to create an interesting but pleasant atmosphere in their instrumental playing, but also challenging at times. The band emphasizes using a diverse vocabulary and thus utilizes the large and beautiful vocabulary that Icelandic has to offer.

The musical influences come from various sources, but Brek seeks to weave them together into his own soundscape, thus striving to break down barriers between musical styles as well as connect Icelandic folk music heritage with other types of folk music.

The band was nominated for the Icelandic Music Awards in the folk music category two years in a row and won the Icelandic Music Awards for Album of the Year in Folk and World Music in 2022 for their first album, which is the same name as the band.
