Bluegrass Music Association of Maine

Dexter, ME

About.

The Bluegrass Music Association of Maine has been the gathering point for the state's bluegrass community since 1995, when Al Hawkes brought together a group of devotees to start a member-driven nonprofit dedicated to keeping the music alive in Maine. Incorporated as a 501(c)(3) in 1996, BMAM works to promote, preserve, and grow bluegrass across the state, from the history and culture behind it to the next generation of players picking up a banjo or fiddle for the first time.

The association keeps a statewide calendar of jams, concerts, and festivals, points folks toward Maine bluegrass bands and the radio shows that spotlight them, and hosts jams and concerts of its own all over the state. BMAM sponsors band contests, runs workshops and educational opportunities, sets up at festivals around Maine, and supports the Maine Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum. As a member of the International Bluegrass Music Association, it connects Maine's pickers to the wider bluegrass world while staying rooted right here at home.
